These early drawings are from a pivotal series (“hedges”) from 2001. Made with pencil on newsprint paper and drawn with urgency, they were like sustenance.

I draw, paint, and print to build a history with material, form, and ideas. My work is driven by a determination to maintain an openness and freedom within this search. It’s a constant pull between building a foundation and dismantling it, always trying to get closer to finding the underlying impulse for making things.
