Stephen St John
I approach painting and printmaking in the same way. The process of painting with rollers and brushes makes textures and patterns inside the shapes. I start with a few shapes, then both deliberate & accidental marks lead to other shapes and colors. There are many layers as scraping through them makes new textures and patterns. The final painting/print is the outcome of all the individual choices made along the way. The process can be chaotic, but when it's finished when it has the sense of a cohesive whole.
